- The transition zones approaching track singularities are critical points in the railway layout due to more pronounced degradation of components compared to the rest of the track. This work presents the issues related to transition zones as well as their underlying causes. Subsequently, it introduces a series of methods already used in various contexts, delving into the analysis of the geometry and composition of the embankment near a track corridor. To achieve this, different models are created and analyzed using the Plaxis software. The results highlight the need to find a balance between different soil rigidities and a substantial length of the embankment to reduce track deflection and its deteriorations, all while controlling the costs associated with track work. Thus, this study proposes an approach to tackle the diverse challenges encountered ahead of track singularities, suggesting different avenues of solutions and providing guidance on methodologies to be adopted depending on each specific situation. However, research opportunities remain in this fiels, both concerning embankment geometries and optimizing the selection of the best transition embankment.
