- Abstract
- This thesis studies how alternative interoceanic corridors could affect Panama Canal traffic and the performance of an Asia–Americas container shipping network. Using an optimization model, it compares the Panama Canal, Panama Rail, and potential corridors in Mexico and Central America. The results show that the Panama Canal remains the best option under normal conditions, but alternative corridors become useful when canal capacity is constrained, especially during drought or demand growth. The study highlights the role of corridor capacity, port compatibility, and vessel size in building more resilient maritime supply chains.
