Abstract
Lagoons are crucial environments for the world’s biodiversity. They are home to a rich ecosystem that lives at the interface between sea and land. This fragile equilibrium is endangered by threats linked to human activity and climate change. The Marano and Grado lagoons are an example of this fight for wetland survival. In this work, we analyze the current organisation of the region, rooted in its history, that led to a neglected lagoon. We then identify the threats and propose a plan for a renewed lagoon. It copes with the climatic and pollution threats, promotes the development of aquaculture and establishes a new relationship between man and the lagoon.
