- Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to study the mortality rate in Belgium, France and the Netherlands through the Lee-Carter model and several of its extensions. The "Augmented Common Factor" at one level makes it possible to make a distinction between men and women while "The Augmented Common Factor" at two levels adds a term of differentiation in relation to the countries studied. Finally, the “Augmented Common Factor with cohort extension” allows the analysis of the potential effects of cohorts on the mortality rate. A comparison is made between the Lee-Carter models and the “Augmented Common Factor” at two levels via a calibration of the parameters followed by an analysis of their projections of life expectancy against empirical data. Finally, a projection of life expectancy until 2060 for each country as well as an example of a pricing application for a life annuity are also given at the end of the thesis.
