Abstract
BACKGROUND : Bariatric surgery is a surgery that encounters great success but unfortunately the results are only optimal in a short period of time. In the long term, a lot of patients regain weight. Due to the unsatisfied results in the long-term, monitoring for this population is recommended pre and post-surgery. A strategy has been investigated to optimize this monitoring: eHealth. Evidence was found on behavior change techniques but the consensus on what is efficient particularly in terms of physical activity and diet does not seem to be reached. OBJECTIVES : The purpose of this work is to state what is available in literature concerning nutritional and physical activity techniques with eHealth to help bariatric patients maintain their weight or avoid weight regain in the long term. METHODS : For this systematic review, four databases are used including Embase, Pubmed, Sciencedirect and Scopus. Thanks to the software Rayyan, eight studies are retained in the final selection and two more are added to them. All of them mention eHealth as a useful way to monitor the patient. RESULTS : The results obtained are mainly based on the patient’s perception. The main topic assessed is physical activity. Unlike physical activity, the authors have a consensus about the nutrition assessment, even though it is less mentioned. Patients are followed between the first and the sixth month after surgery. Two important pieces of information are often missing in the studies : the BMI and the involvement of health professionals. CONCLUSION : The results obtained are very heterogeneous due to the lack of a framework and guidelines. The apps used for eHealth need to be improved in order to provide a follow-up more specific to the patient's pathology from a nutritional and physical point of view. However, some functionalities have a great effect on the patients’ satisfaction : reminders and health tracking.
