- Abstract
- Androgenic alopecia is a disease characterized by hair loss. It affects a very large numbers of people. It causes psychological suffering and harmful effects on the quality of daily life of affected patients. Only two molécules with androgenic alopecia as an indication have been introduced into the market: Finasteride and Minoxidil. The discovery of Minoxidil and Finasteride are among the many known cases of drug repositioning. In the case of Minoxidil, repositioning occurred following a combination of circumstances in the context of research on another drug: This was a case of repositioning by serendipity. However, these treatments have limits and their effectiveness is not optimal. This repositioning strategy is a method that has great benefits for the pharmaceutical industry and has demonstrated great success. Indeed, the usual drug discovery strategy is a long, expensive and high risk process. The strategy of repositioning is adopted by various players in the sector given all the advantages it can bring. Once again it can be used in the discovery of potentially new drugs for the treatment of alopecia. In this dissertation, we will therefore study the place of repositioning as a drug research strategy in general and more particularly in the context of androgenic alopecia.
