Abstract
The company E2Drives, a Belgian start-up specialising in electric bike motors and powertrain systems, needed a new and more versatile test bench to support its growing development needs. To address this challenge, a master's thesis was initiated in collaboration with UCLouvain to design and prototype a next-generation test bench. The project began with a thorough analysis of the existing test bench model, whose limitations helped define a detailed set of specifications for the new system. The design process followed a structured approach, from conceptual exploration to component sizing and detailed mechanical integration. The control architecture, both electrical and software, was developed with promising results, particularly for the elevator module, while work on roller control and complete integration is ongoing. The prototype demonstrates significant progress, offering a more modular, ergonomic, and quieter solution with enhanced safety features. Although further developments remain, particularly in the software and electrical domains, the mechanical systems are ready and tested. The platform already provides a solid foundation for continued development and future integration. This work has laid the groundwork for future advancements at E2Drives, in line with the company’s ambition to refine its testing capabilities and support ongoing innovation in electric mobility.
