- Abstract
- Bacterial cystitis affects a large population and is responsible for a high prescription of antibiotics. In recent years, there has been a craze for antibiotic therapies which has been accompanied by a strong emergence of bacterial resistance. Rational use of these antibiotics is therefore essential. This master thesis first deals with the latest antibiotic therapies used for simple, recurrent cystitis or cystitis at risk of complications. The rate of resistance developed by the different bacterial uropathogens is one of the main criteria of a probabilistic antibiotic therapy. Thus, nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin are among the antibiotics recommended by this empirical approach. This work also discusses alternative treatments, whether they are currently being researched or already on sale in pharmacies. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, local oestrogens, D-mannose, probiotics, urinary alkalinizers, food supplements belonging to phytotherapy and aromatherapy, or hygieno-dietary measures can be identified. Other alternative treatments, including immunotherapy targeting Escherichia coli, are under investigation and appear promising. Throughout this , we have tried to determine the interests and limitations of each treatment or prophylaxis in order to better understand the algorithms put in place. The study of the recommendations and scientific articles collected in the various databases has revealed a lack of interest of researchers or companies in alternative treatments. Indeed, the studies were generally carried out on small samples and did not necessarily lead to conclusive results. New studies targeting a representative population should therefore be conducted in order to definitively conclude on the interest of these alternative treatments.
