- Abstract
- Turbomachinery design has gone a long way since its first steps. Loss correlations have always had an important role to play in many design stages of new machines. In the design context of a new European compressor, this work assesses, selects and criticizes the present state of the art loss correlations in order to develop a usable framework for the analysis of CFD results on a compressor stage. Chosen loss correlations show good results at low radii up to midspan, but their poor design for low aspect ratio compressors generates important errors in predicting the elements contributing to the magnitude of losses at high radius.
