- Abstract
- A new space plane called Skylon is being studied by Reaction Engines Limited. The aim of this project is to send satellites in orbit and achieve spatial missions for lower cost. They plan to equip this plane with a new engine: the SABRE engine The subject of my thesis is the analyse of this engine. First I will search the theory required to study this engine. These informations are about aerodynamics, fluids dynamics and thermodynamics. I will modelise the different parts of this engine, such as the inlet, heats exchanger, compressors and turbine as well as the combustion and expansion in the nozzle from these data. After the engine's modeling I will caracterise the different fluids states: the air, helium and hydrogen properties were analised at each point of the cycle. In the next chapter, I will study the performance of the SABRE engine : the thrust, the specific thrust and the specific impulse are computed. Then, the performance of this engine are compared to those of existing engine and also to the performance expected by Reaction engine. Finally an energetic and exergetic balance was done : the contribution of each part of the engine will be evaluated. This will allows us to identify the weak point of the engine and to consider the possible improvement.
