Abstract

enMigraine is a common and debilitating primary neurological disorder, which is two to three times more prevalent in women than in men, particularly in women of childbearing age. This thesis focuses on the biological, hormonal and psychosocial differences in migraine in women. It will first detail the hormonal and pathophysiological specificities of women with migraine. Next, the clinical and therapeutic implications related to reproductive life, such as pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding and hormonal contraception, will be analysed. Finally, non-hormonal factors, such as comorbidities common in women and the impact of stress or mental load, will be examined. The aim is to show that female migraine results from a complex interaction between biological, hormonal and social mechanisms, and to highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to improving its management.
