Abstract
This paper presents the attitudes of some Cameroonians towards the numerous languages in their country but with different statuses. With the presence of these languages, there exists serious language problems which are mainly the non-promotion of indigenous languages beside the prestigious colonial languages such as French and English be it in the domain of education, politics, economy and socialization and moreover the social stratification between the elite and the rest of the population. Our study will focus on the sociolinguistic profile of Cameroon, the implications of language policy trends, its consequences and the quest of Kamtok and Camfranglais as solutions to the linguistic problems in Cameroon. In depth, via this study, our aim is to investigate the attitudes of some Cameroonians both in Cameroon and abroad towards French, English, Kamtok and Camfranglais as languages of education, home, internationalization, officialization and identity. Moreover, besides the fact that French and English are recognized as languages of success and the elite, which role could Kamtok and Camfranglais play in the sociolinguistic sphere of Cameroon? This will be observed through the attitudes and motivation of these participants via an online survey. In the same light, we shall be presenting CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) as an approach or a solution appropriate for the African multilingual context thus promoting both the national languages as well as the international languages.
