- Abstract
- Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex, multifactorial autoimmune disease that primarily affects women. Due to the limitations of conventional treatments and the chronic nature of the disease, many patients turn to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), such as acupuncture and omega-3 supplementation, to better manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. This thesis first reviews the pathophysiology, epidemiology, and standard treatments of SLE, as well as the role of CAM in this context. It then analyzes data from the literature to assess the efficacy and safety of these approaches. The ultimate goal is to define their role within a comprehensive, personalized, and evidence-based care strategy.
