- Cell membrane mechanical properties like surface tension, stiffness and elasticity are now seen as playing a vital role in regulating cell behaviour, especially during processes like viral entry where the membrane is remodelled. The objective of this dissertation was to formulate and substantiate a pioneering experimental framework integrating two-dimensional micropatterning and atomic force microscopy (AFM), with a view to investigating how geometric limitations regulate membrane mechanics and possibly impact the initial phases of viral infection.
