Abstract
This master's thesis examines spelling teaching and assessment practices in French-speaking Belgian secondary education. It consists of two parts: a theoretical part and a part based on a survey of teachers. The theoretical part includes a brief description of the French "plurisystem", a presentation of current knowledge in cognitive psychology and didactics concerning the acquisition of spelling, and a historical perspective. The second part begins with an analysis of the guidelines and curricula recently published in the context of the Pacte pour un enseignement d'excellence and a comparison with the guidelines of the Décret Mission. It then presents the results of a survey of teachers at the second and third levels of secondary education (roughly equivalent to upper secondary education) in French-speaking Belgium. The data were statistically processed, first using a clustering method, and then using multiple correspondence analysis. Finally, a descriptive and interpretative analysis of the data is carried out, with a hermeneutic aim.
