Abstract
Chronic obstructive lung disease is a chronic pathology of the respiratory system almost irreversible touching approximately 65 million persons worldwide. In Belgium the prevalence approaches 8%. When you go through literature, it becomes obvious that patients are struggling with their medication. The purpose of this thesis is to create a tool for all pharmacists giving them the opportunity to provide useful information to their patients ensuring good understanding and an adequate use of the treatment. Therefore this thesis will first go over theoretical elements concerning the disease but also over the definition of therapeutic education. Eventually, a literature review will identify the patient’s stumbling blocks, the role performed by the pharmacist and the financial advantages of a better patient care. In addition, two surveys on patients and pharmacists confirm and complete the abovementioned elements. All the above will enable the development of the therapeutic tool for the patient.
