- Abstract
- We conduct a quantitative analysis to assess the economic and institutional outcomes of sending troops to United Nations peacekeeping operations on contributing countries. For this purpose, we use a panel data approach for 209 countries over the period 1990 - 2019 using country and year fixed effects. Furthermore, we use an instrumental variable approach to enhance our research. The results show that, overall, sending troops to UN peacekeeping operations does not affect the economic or institutional performance of the contributing countries. However, if there were to be an effect for some specific cases, it would tend to be positive, but their interpretation must be cautious.
