- Abstract
- This thesis deals with the use of an authentic literary work in the French as a foreign language classroom. It addresses the following question : how can an authentic literary work, La Vagabonde by Colette (1910), be used in the FFL classroom to explore the theme of women's independence with Vietnamese final-year high school students who have reached level B1 ? Combining the didactics of literature in FFL, reader-response theory and the action-oriented approach, the research establishes a grid of fifteen guiding principles, then proposes a sequence of twelve forty-five-minute lessons over three weeks, built on five didacticised extracts, a biographical documentary and the audiobook of the novel. Three pieces of writing, a portrait, a letter and an essay, move students from describing the character to expressing their own point of view, and the reading leads to two final tasks, a round table and a collection of essays for Vietnamese Women's Day, assessed with criterion-based grids in which content matters more than linguistic accuracy. Classroom testing is the first perspective opened by this work.
