Abstract
The adjective "poetic" has entered the language of critics to indicate a spectacle that does not resort to poetry as a literary genre. This Master thesis tries to approach the meaning of the poetry applied to these situations, which means a poetry in itself, as an effect and disconnected from an artistic genre. In order to do this, he first proposes a theoretical journey going back to the origin of poetry, studying its characteristics and the reception occasionned as a literary genre. In a second phase, this Master thesis discusses poetry per se within the performing arts. This second part is composed of a theoretical journey supported by the texts of theoreticians and practitioners of the stage, followed by an analysis of the poetic effects in three visual performances (not using the text) qualified as "poetic" by critics and spectators (Le Mouvement de l’air of Adrien M & Claire B Company, Migrations of Mossoux-Bonté Company and Wonders of the Side-Show Company). The purpose is to determine what features of textual poetry can be applied to poetic effects present on stage and not through speech but via what this Master thesis has called « sensory poetry ».
