Abstract
In 2009, a paper about the paradox of declining female happiness was published. This paper shows that, while our era is witnessing enormous progress in the struggle for gender equality, women are reporting an increasingly lower level of satisfaction from 1985 to 2006. In this thesis, we will investigate this phenomenon and see whether or not it is still relevant. We will also look at the extent to which the economy has an impact on the satisfaction of men and women, and how the financial crisis of 2008 has influenced economic stability and thus people's well-being. Did the unemployment rate affect men and women differently, and if so, to what extent? And has it led to one part of the population being less happy than the other? These are the questions we will try to answer.
