Abstract

enTo answer the thesis subject “How does Riad Sattouf’s The Arab of the Future question we took a multidisciplinary approach, researching and collecting gender studies that have been produced on the subject, conducting a graphic analysis of the comic strip, and analyzing cultural sociology. We studied the predominant male models in the comics, such as Riad Sattouf’s father, his maternal grandfather, and Riad himself. To this we added a study of Pascal Brutal, another of Sattouf’s comic book that embodies caricatured masculinity. In parallel with the study of masculinity, we also analyzed how violence is represented in Riad Sattouf’s life and art.
