Abstract

enToday, we live in a world that is more and more digital and full of advanced technologies, where people are less and less safe. With the fast-growing technologies, especially with the rise of social media, there are some positive sides. However, we should also be aware of the dark side of these technologies and the risks coming with this rise, since cyber violence and online abuse are also rising. Throughout our lives, we have all been caught in the whirlwind of this digital storm at least once. Regardless of whether we have been victims of hacking, online stalking, or hate speech, we have all felt that uncomfortable feeling of insecurity and fear that our information could be misused despite our efforts to protect ourselves. The question of this thesis examines cyber violence against women through an analysis of its main forms, and the effectiveness of the existing European legal and institutional framework in preventing and addressing online violence against women. As well as a review of legal acts, academic literature, institutional reports, and statistical data. The thesis aims to send a message that stronger enforcement, increased awareness, and improved support mechanisms are necessary to ensure a safer digital environment for women and girls.
