- Abstract
- Modeling and simulation of a passive scalar in a domain composed by a porous layer is the subject of this master thesis. The chosen approach deals with a macroscopic model that is focused on the interaction between the pure fluid zone and the porous layer. At the interface, the continuity is assured thanks to the single-domain approach. The numerical simulation of methane dispersion, produced inside a compost heap, is studied as the laminar case. This model has been extended and adapted to turbulent mean flows using a k-epsilon model. Carbon dioxide and particulate matter dispersion in an urban canopy has been numerically simulated based on this approach. Interesting observations about the results have been carried out: the formation of Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities or the influence of the drag force on the pollutants dispersion for example. However, analyses and observations are limited by different factors that will be discussed in this work.
