- Abstract
- Over the years, Belgian education policy has been reformed several times. Since 2015, education in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB) has undergone major changes with the Pacte pour un Enseignement d’Excellence, particularly in terms of in-service training programmes for teachers. It is therefore important to make their opinion known. This qualitative study thus focuses on the opinion, needs and expectations of teachers of Dutch in upper secondary education in the FWB. To this end, participants were interviewed about four aspects of in-service training programmes: themes, quantity, language, and frequency and organisation. Based on the transcripts, the main trends were extracted and analysed qualitatively. The results show that language teachers are not satisfied with the current offer of in-service training programmes, which they consider as irrelevant and uninteresting compared to their real needs. The analysis also reveals that many teachers are unaware of the various in-service training opportunities offered by the authorities, which reduces their effectiveness. On the basis of these findings, this MA thesis attempts to suggest a number of ways in which the current offer could be improved in order to make it more effective.
