Abstract
Wanting to know the flow of a river is not something new. Indeed, since the Antiquity, the Man wonders about the speed of the rivers that surround him. Several instruments allowing to calculate the flow have then been created over time. However, their use is not adapted to exceptional conditions such as floods or droughts. In a context dictated by climate change, during which periods of high and low water alternate, it is necessary to be able to count on another type of measurement to know the flow of the rivers in all circumstances. It is in this context that non-intrusive measurement techniques were born and with them, an application able to approximate the real flow when video and bathymetry are provided. Although designed to be as intuitive as possible, the application requires some knowledge to obtain suitable flow rates. A comprehensive user guide has been developed to ensure that the application is understood. The influence of certain parameters will also be analyzed in order to determine optimal settings. A second part will be dedicated to the realization of measurements on the field and to the experimentation of a kit allowing to facilitate them. Finally, in order to allow the improvement and the evolution of the application by everyone, the last part of this document will focus on the Open Source of the code and will describe the ins and outs of this process.
