Abstract
The water hyacinth is the most invasive plant on the planet, thriving in warm and humid environments and forming dense mats at the surface of the water. Governments around the world are spending significant amount of money on pesticides, in an effort to eradicate it. In-Between International (IBI), a Belgian startup, has found an innovative way to transform the plant into a fiber. This fiber can be used in various applications, inlcuding pet litter for its absorbent properties, and insulation panels for thermal and acoustic insulation. By repurposing the plant, IBI addresses a significant global environmental issue while creating value-added products. This thesis investigates whether IBI’s model is viable and how the compnay will grow over the next five years. This is done through various analysis: market analysis, a market research, and a financial analysis. The company’s growth and development strategies are also examined. Findings indicate that IBI is a promising startup with a great mission and considerable opportunities ahead. But it will need to monitor market trends and conduct further analyses to overcome possible obstacles in the next five years.
