Abstract

enThis thesis analyses the determinants of ICT equipment investment in Colombian manufacturing establishments using establishment-level panel data from DANE’s Annual Manufacturing Survey (EAM) spanning 2012-2023. Grounded in the Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, it examines how establishment size, labour productivity, export orientation, and human capital composition are associated with ICT equipment investment intensity. The 2012-2023 period is used to document trends and patterns of ICT equipment investment across Colombian manufacturing; the estimation of dynamic associations relies on a System Generalized Method of Moments (System GMM) estimator applied to the 2018-2023 sub-period, for which complete and consistent data are available across all regressors. A complementary classification of establishments as active or inactive ICT investors is proposed as a direction for future research. The findings aim to inform digital transformation policy in emerging economies.
