Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the link between ethnic diversity and the degree of inequality among castes and religious groups at a district level in India. The paper further investigates if conflict contributes to a higher level of inequality. The hypothesis regarding conflict is generally not corroborated by the data, whereas the hypothesis suggesting a positive relationship between ethnic diversity and inequality is empirically verified.
