Abstract
Metastatic cancer, the leading cause of mortality from solid tumors, depends on tumor angiogenesis, a crucial process driven by VEGF-A. Bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting this factor, is used in the treatment of various cancers, though its limitations, including resistance and high costs, persist. Biosimilars, more affordable alternatives to bevacizumab, are emerging as a promising solution.This dissertation first explores the mechanisms of angiogenesis and the role of bevacizumab in anticancer therapy. It then analyzes available biosimilars, assessing their similarity to the reference drug through analytical and clinical studies. Finally, it examines their integration in Belgium, the barriers to their adoption, and strategies to address these challenges. Globally, this work offers a reflection on the contribution of biosimilars to the therapeutic landscape, highlighting the scientific, clinical, and economic issues surrounding their adoption.
