- Abstract
- The current master thesis has tried to answer what is the relationship between videogame use and identity development and self-esteem. The data was gathered through online survey questionnaires, completed by participants aged between 16 to 19 years old. The data gathered included a combined questionnaire on age, sex, nationality, video game use (per day/hours), type of video game, the gaming addiction (GAS scale), the identity development (DIDS), and the self-esteem (B-RSES). After making statistical analyses with SPSS 29, the results indicated no significant relationship between video game use and identity development, nor for video game use and self-esteem. Future research should continue to assess what could be the possible impacts video game use could have on important aspects of the mental health in adolescents, such as, identity development and self-esteem.
