Abstract

enThis dissertation in Gender Studies starts from an observation: there are still plenty of stereotyped representations in films, even when these have no impact on the story. Through a process of analysing screenplays during the screenwriting process, followed by a discussion with their authors, this research tests the hypothesis that at least some negative stereotypes and tropes are used unconsciously and unintentionally. Unprecedented in its approach, this exploratory study draws on several fields (linguistics, sociology, film and television studies) to build its own method, grounded in Gender Studies applied to cinema.
