Abstract
In recent years, gynaecological and obstetrical violences have gained in importance. Initially considered taboo and confined to the medical sphere, political and legal authorities are gradually taking up the subject, aware that solutions must be found to improve the relationship between patients and medical staff, and to reinforce medical ethics in general. It was only later that the long-silent actors in the healthcare sector began to rally around these objectives, and that guidelines began to take shape. However, the few projects that have been set up are not efficient, and often miss the point, proposing only surface solutions and common-sense ones. The authorities seem to miss the point of the whole issue: gynaecological and obstetrical violences have their roots in the very foundations of medicine and its approach to women's health. This aspect attributes a gender dimension to such violence, which cannot be solved by reinforced medical ethics.
