- Abstract
- There are medieval authors who have hardly enjoyed the esteem of modern criticism. The trouvère Brisebarre is one of them. Fortunately, during the second half of the 20th century, his work was rediscovered through the edition of two of his compositions. This could only motivate philologists to continue the initiative, with other texts awaiting their publisher. The Tresor Nostre Dame, composed in the first half of the 14th century, was one of them. Religious in nature and following the model of the Helinand stanza, the poem is a prayer addressed to the Virgin Mary. Of course, it does not escape the numerous topoi of Marian literature, but it invites to take a new look at its author. The present edition aims to rework the biography of the trouvère, enriching it with a poetic and linguistic study of the published text. The critical text, the centerpiece of this Master’s thesis, is intended to be as close as possible to the original text written by Brisebarre, transmitted in four manuscripts.
