Abstract

enThyroid diseases represent a global public health issue, while the gut microbiota is attracting growing scientific interest for its role in numerous physiological processes. It is in this context that the concept of a Thyroid-Gut Axis has emerged. This bibliographic review aims to critically examine the impact of the gut microbiota on thyroid function. The analysis is based on three studies—two Mendelian randomizations and one case-control study. The results reveal a link between microbiota composition and autoimmune thyroid diseases (Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis), while highlighting the methodological limitations inherent in this field. In conclusion, the thyroid-gut axis is a promising field, but therapeutic prospects remain theoretical and require an individualized approach. This research invites us to explore a new question: is there a critical time window for preventing these diseases by modulating the gut microbiota in predisposed individuals ?
