- Abstract
- Social media platforms have always been considered as a popular tool for political image building (Zhuravskaya, Petrova & Enikolopov, 2020). However, few studies have analyzed the political content broadcasted on the live-streaming platform Twitch. The aim of this analysis is to provide a first insight of the values defended by the French and American streamers who share political content on Twitch. The selected streamers are either politicians themselves or streamers who focused on political themes on their Twitch channels. This analysis focuses on videos shared between 2020 and 2022 from streamers based in the US and in France. To analyze the values defended by the politicians, the chosen approach is based on the Theory of Basic Values from Schwartz (1992) combined with an analysis in the actantial narrative model, developed by Greimas (1966). Findings highlight politicians' alignment with altruistic, flexible, and egalitarian values, demonstrating adaptation to young people's concerns, and they also show the prevalence of self-transcendence and egoistic ideals.
