- Abstract
- This thesis analyzes current United States Trade Policy in order to review and understand recent events in the world trade system. The content of the 2018 US Trade Policy Agenda having led to greater uncertainty, this analysis shows different possible future scenarios in response to US threats of trade barriers. In order to do so, one must differentiate between short-term and long-term costs for the United States in pursuing a protectionist approach to trade, as well as emphasize the importance of trade regulations with the World Trade Organization and explain that trade wars are the only possible outcome if countries decide to pursue self-interest policies with a view to maximizing national social welfare.
