Abstract
This thesis examines the effect of crossing drome one world to another on the development of main characters in children’s and young adult literature, through three franch fantasy novels: La Passe-miroir : les fiancés de l’hiver by Christelle Dabos, La Quête d’Ewilan : D’un monde à l’autre by Pierre Bottero, and Magic Charly : L’apprenti by Audrey Alwett. It draws on a theoretical contextualization of children’s literature, young adult literature, fantasy, and the motif of “passage”, showing how these concepts intertwine to shape adolescent or child protagonists. The study compares the construction of characters before and after their passage into another universe. It analyses the influence of fantasy on the characters’ development and highlights the identity impact of the crossing. This thesis also emphasizes the specificity of the Francophone corpus, often overshadowed by Anglo-Saxon works, and demonstrates that children’s literature plays an educational and political role. Ultimately, it shows how the transition from one world to another becomes a mirror for contemporary issues related to the development of young people.
