Abstract
enIn this paper, we explore anticipatory investments in European electricity grids and highlight their strategic importance for integrating renewable energy sources. Our analysis reveals that the absence of a harmonised regulatory framework within the European Union is a key barrier to their deployment. By examining national case studies, we identify best practices and advocate for the creation of a common European framework. Finally, we stresses the importance of clearly recognising anticipatory investments within the regulated asset base to incentivize operators to commit to long-term infrastructure projects.
