Abstract

This final paper consists of a subtitling of a BBC documentary entitled Dancing the Nutcracker: Inside the Royal Ballet. This thesis starts with an introduction written in English in which several aspects of a professional ballet dancer are detailed. Then, I chose to compare a professional ballet dancer and an amateur ballet dancer. In order to write my essay, I developed several aspects such as stress, injury, sleep, creativity… which all help to define a ballet dancer. The second part of this thesis includes the subtitling of the documentary. Finally, this thesis ends with the commentary of the subtitling, which is written in French. In this section, I explain the choices that I made in my subtitling and why. This thesis includes a preface before the introduction and a bibliography at the end. Moreover, I have an appendix which contains the original script of my subtitling.
