Abstract

enPsoriasis is a skin condition and chronic inflammatory disease, described as an erythematosquamous dermatosis affecting more than 125 million people worldwide, and for which there is no cure. More than skin deep, psoriasis is a profoundly disfiguring and emotionally debilitating condition, which threatens patient’s mental health. Thus, this work focuses on the psychosocial aspect of psoriasis which is often ignored or wrongly disregarded, and highlights the need for a holistic and multidisciplinary care of the psoriatic patient who falls within the grey area between dermatology and psychiatry. Therefore, the concept of psychodermatology which introduces and rationalizes the use of psychotropic drugs in dermatological diseases will be discussed. Hence alluding to the potential of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in psoriasis.
