- Abstract
- Background and purpose Ankle stiffness is a common musculoskeletal disorder affecting the talocrural joint after injury. This disorder can impair weight-bearing ankle dorsiflexion (WBADF). study aimed to compare the immediate effect of real and sham Mulligan posterosuperior mobilization with movement (MWM) on the fibula combined with fibula repositioning taping (FRT) for improving dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM), musculoarticular stiffness(MAS) and pain. Methods 55 subjects with chronic and asymmetric ankle joint stiffness during WBADF were include. FMWM and PLACEBO group were injured subjects and received real and sham MWM respectively. CONTROL group was composed of uninjured subjects and aimed to assess if treatment was more effective on subjects who had previous injury from those that were not injured. MAS outcomes and Clinical measures were taken. Results Result shows an improvement for dorsiflexion and amplitude but no significant between groups across time (p>0.01) excepted for the elastic component (EL) component between FMWM and CONTROL group (p=0.020). There was a small effect size for the dorsiflexion ROM for the FMWM group and CONTROL. A significant effect time when group are taken collectively was found (p<0.01) excepted for the VAS. Conclusion Single application of Weight bearing MWM on the fibula added to a FRT shows no significant difference in improvement of dorsiflexion and pain. There was an increase in Elastic stiffness between treatment group and control group.
