Abstract

enDuring this final dissertation, I attempted to analyse the cardioprotective effect of finerenone in patients with type 2 diabetes. Indeed, these patients may suffer of heart diseases, kidney and neuropathy complications. To answer my question on the topic, I based myself on three relevant articles from the scientific literature. These are randomized controlled trials including patients with type 2 diabetes and/or with kidney failure. In each study, patients, enrolled according to inclusion criteria, were divided into two groups: one receiving oral finerenone while the other was given either a placebo or an active molecule. This made it possible to analyse the effect of finerenone at different doses over a period of at least one month. In addition, the risk of hyperkalaemia which is a potentially serious side effect of finerenone was assessed in each of studies. This has been found to be frequent but did not prevent the affected patients from continuing the study as their health was not compromised. Eventually, the authors were able to confirm the cardioprotective effect of finerenone in type 2 diabetic patients.
