Abstract

enThis master’s thesis analyses the discrepancies between theoretical planning and the actual execution of operating room schedules at the Clinique Saint Pierre d’Ottignies. Based on activity data and field observations, the study highlights recurrent delays in the start of the first surgical case as well as frequent overruns at the end of the operating programme. The analysis shows that start delays are mainly related to organisational coordination issues. End-of-day overruns are, in turn, associated with a structural underestimation of planned surgical durations. On this basis, organisational improvement measures are proposed and evaluated through simulations and using key performance indicators. The results show that a programme based on historical data improves robustness by limiting the extent of overruns in the scheduled room occupancy times and reducing their frequency, without negatively impacting the overall capacity of the operating room.
