- Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) are a heterogeneous group of lymphoid malignancies typically treated with intensive therapeutic regimens that often cause substantial systemic toxicity. Functionalized nanoparticles (NPs) represent a promising advance in targeted oncology. By grafting specific ligands, such as monoclonal antibodies or aptamers, onto their surface, these nanocarriers aim to enhance tumor selectivity, minimize off-target effects, and improve therapeutic outcomes. This thesis critically reviews recent preclinical literature to assess the therapeutic potential of functionalized NPs in the treatment of NHL. It compares their performance to non-targeted NPs in terms of biodistribution, selective cytotoxicity, apoptosis induction, and systemic safety. The study also addresses key translational and industrial challenges that must be overcome for future clinical application. Overall, this work offers a comprehensive analysis of ligand-functionalized nanoparticles as a promising and customizable strategy for safer and more effective treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
