- Abstract
- Introduction: Bariatric surgery is an efficient treatment for patients with morbid obesity. A training program is recommended to improve the impact of the surgery. Therefore, I developed a dedicated exercise scheme that can be offered to bariatric patients through the moveUP mobile application. Method: A review of the literature was conducted to prepare a first version of an exercise scheme dedicated to bariatric patients. Discussions with experts took place to collect more information about exercise medicine for obese and bariatric patients and about remote programs. Literature review: The scheme should include resistance and aerobic training, organised in specific phases. In addition, the use of a remote program is viewed positively as it improves adherence of the patients. Finally, some constraints for bariatric population were identified, such as barriers to practising exercise, sedentary behaviour and lack of motivation. Technical constraints: The program should fit in the moveUP mobile application environment and in a more global health care program. Creation of the scheme: 55 exercises were selected and categorized for the resistance training, and goals of physical activity were set for the aerobic training. Progressive resistance exercises and physical activity goals were distributed per phase. Experts’ input: Experts supported a remote exercise scheme including both resistance and aerobic training organised in phases for bariatric patients and raised several items to be considered to further improve the exercise scheme. Conclusion: Following the review of the literature, the exercise scheme was prepared. It could be further improved considering the outcome of discussions with health professionals and potential feedback from patients.
