Abstract

enThe SBS reaches very few people in the world but they are often very affected. That’s why, it is important to take an interest in this syndrom. Indeed, patients suffer from a lot of clinical symptoms causing severe fluid and nutritional imbalances. Furthermore, TPN dependence is very restrictive on the patient’s activities. There is also a psychosocial, professional and economic impacts that is added to that. As a result, patients with SBS have a significantly reduced quality of life. The first part of this master thesis will be devoted to the explanation of SBS and its consequences on patients’ lives. Then, conventional nutritionals and drugs treatments improving the health of people with SBS will be discussed. Finally, new ambulatory drugs will be developed in detail, in particulary teduglutide. Through a clinical study, its effectiveness in improving the patients’ quality of life will be demonstrated.
