Abstract
enThe main focus of this master’s thesis is to answer the following question: « what are the major challenges faced by students in simultaneous interpretation who interpret from Russian to French, and what strategies can they develop to address them? » We have divided this question in three units: general challenges in the field of simultaneous interpreting; challenges experienced by learners specifically; and challenges specific to interpreting from Russian into French. We conducted a research questionnaire to supplement our study with insights from experienced professional interpreters. We also carried out observations of novice’s performances in simultaneous interpretation from Russian to French in order to identify their greatest challenges. Finally, we created a mind map to encapsulate all the different strategies we identified to make them accessible to novice interpreters.
