- Abstract
- The flu is a common infection in our society. Although in most cases it stays benign, it can be very dangerous, even fatal. It is caused by the Influenza virus which is very variable from year to year and therefore makes the production of an effective vaccine difficult. Much research is currently underway to allow for more effective therapies. This thesis will focus on one of these new therapeutic avenues, the chimeric hemagglutinins which increase the levels of antibodies directed against a less variable part of the virus, the hemagglutinin stalk. This technique has already been studied for several years and has just started in clinical study. This thesis will bring the results made in animals so far and the latest results in humans which seem promising.
