- Abstract
- More and more dams on the Sambre are equipped with hydroelectric plants. The installation and maintenance of these plants requires the temporary closure of one of the sluices of these dams. In the case of large flows, the fact that only one sluice is open instead of two during a normal period can cause critical erosion downstream of the dams. This was the case in 2010-11 downstream of the Marcinelle dam (Hainaut, Belgium) where a major scouring has caused damages to structures. This study proposes to study this phenomenon of erosion in 2 complementary ways: by experimental modeling on a reduced model and by numerical modeling. The reduced model study is conducted at the Laboratoire des Recherches Hydrauliques of the Service Public de Wallonie and allows to simulate the flow of the Marcinelle dam on a scale of 1:50. The numerical model developed on TELEMAC2D / Sisyphe allows a greater variability of possible configurations and could generalize the study to other similar cases. The approach followed is to try to validate the model developed numerically using experimental results. A study of the flow velocity as well as the evolution of erosion will be developed in this report.
