Abstract
This thesis is the commented subtitling of a movie called Dragonfly Boy, a film telling the story of a young man figuring out his sexuality. The representation of the protagonist is not stereotypical, and the movie ends on a happy note. It begs the questions: is every movie about LGBTQ+ members realistic and genuine? How did it evolve throughout the years? Those questions led me to the subject of the introduction: the evolution of the representation of the LGBTQ+ community on screen. It concerns the first movies portraying homosexual people, the ones that marked a turning point for the community, inclusive TV shows and children’s television series. The last part of this thesis includes the justification of my translation choices based on subtitling and translation theories.
